Questions

Before you join.

The things worth knowing before you leave your email. If your question is not here, the door is open.

What is play-by-post, exactly?

A tabletop game played in writing, one post at a time, on everyone's own schedule. Instead of gathering for a session, you and your table take turns writing what your characters do, building a story together over weeks or months. There is no clock to beat and no call to line up.

Is this for me if I usually play live, or on Discord?

If you enjoy the writing part of roleplaying, yes. Play-by-post trades the live energy of a session for room to think and to write a better post, and it lets a game keep going across busy lives and time zones. Plenty of people run both: a live table, and a slower story that unfolds here between sessions.

Do my players have to pay?

Never. Players always play free, with no limits worth naming. Only gamemasters pay, and only to run bigger tables of their own. You can share the reins with co-gamemasters at no extra charge, though a co-GM still takes one of the game's player seats.

Why not just use Discord?

You can, and plenty of tables do. But Discord was built for chatter, not for a story told in turns. The tale scatters across channels, the pings never stop, and dice and characters end up living somewhere else. Ink Raven keeps the writing, the dice, and the characters together in one calm place made for exactly this.

Which game systems can I play?

Rather than lock you into a handful, Ink Raven stays flexible: the dice and tracking are generic enough to carry most systems, from straightforward d20 games to those with exploding dice or success pools, and the homebrew you actually run. Deeper, built-in support for specific systems is on the roadmap for later.

Can I use Ink Raven for free?

Yes. The free plan lets you play in up to 5 games, run 2 of your own with up to 6 players each, and keep up to 10 characters, with dice, whispers, and safety tools all included. You only pay once you want to run more, or larger, tables.

What if my group slows down, or someone drifts away?

That is part of play-by-post, and Ink Raven is built to take it in stride. The thread holds its place whether the next post lands in an hour or a fortnight, and recruitment tools make it easy to welcome a new player into a story already under way.

Who owns what I write?

Ink Raven claims no creative ownership of your characters, your stories, or a single word you write. How ownership is shared among a table is for that table to decide. We are the place you keep the work, not the author of it, and as a project grown slowly and deliberately, we mean to keep it that way. No ads, and your data is never sold.

What happens to my writing if I leave?

Leaving a game just removes you from it. Your posts, whispers, and characters stay exactly as you wrote them, still under your name, and you can be invited back anytime. Closing your account is different: to protect the shared story, your posts stay in their games but step back into the shadows, keeping their character's name while your own quietly becomes a deleted user. Either way, no one else's record of the tale is left with holes in it.

Who is behind Ink Raven, and will it last?

One person, building under the Mossy Goblin banner, slowly and on purpose. No investors leaning on the roadmap, no rush to ship before it is ready. It may grow in time, but it will stay small enough to answer to players, not shareholders. And because you can request a copy of your work, your story is never trapped here, whatever the future holds.

When can I start, and is there anything to install?

Ink Raven is in development now. Join the waitlist and you will be among the first called when it opens, with early-bird pricing locked in. There is nothing to install: it runs in the browser, on whatever device you happen to be holding.
